Newsgroup download limits.

Hi all,

Just switched from Comcast to Verizon in the Portland Oregon area and am
very glad I did.
Download speeds are great, etc..

My question is: Are there any monthly, or other, download limits from
newsgroups with Verizon?
Comcast had a limit of 2 gig/month on the plan I had.

No but yes.
THere is a bottleneck at the Verizon NNTP servers that
Verizon isn't very keen to fix. So although there is
no actual bandwidth or data limits, you are limited
by the bottleneck.

You are limited by the TOS to 5 concurrent connections to the news server.
No other specified limits, so feel free to download 24/7.

I just got verizon in Sept 2007, and was limited to 4 on my old cable
service. I tried verizon and was surprised to get 20 connections.
There is no practical need for 20, as others have said, you can only get
your max download speed, ie. 5mb. So 20 connections at 5m or 5
connections at 5meg. Its 5meg.
And yes there is no download quota per month.

The big difference is that the Verizon Terms of Service clearly says:

"You may open no more than five simultaneous connections to newsgroups at
any one time"

Actually, it is not quite that simple.

Or log in at Verizon Central and go to terms and services at the
bottom of the page. Then scroll down to:

3.7.1 You may not resell the Broadband Service, use it for high
volume purposes, or exceed the bandwidth usage limitations that
Verizon may establish from time to time for the Service.

Verizon says the limit is high enough that any normal home user
is unlikely to be affected.
